What is Phaco Surgery?Phaco is the most commonly used cataract surgery method today. Its most important feature is that it is performed through small incisions. It is commonly thought of as ‘laser cataract surgery’ because it is usually performed under drip anesthesia and no stitches are placed. The success of the surgery is directly affected by the doctor’s experience, preoperative examinations, sterilization of the operating room where the surgery is performed, the quality of the materials used and sterilization.How is Phaco Surgery Performed?For phaco surgery, the front shell of the natural lens is first peeled off. Then, the lens is broken into pieces and removed from the eye with a phaco device that works with ultrasonic wave power and inserted into the eye through a 2.2 mm tunnel. After the inside of the eye lens is completely cleaned, a new lens with the strength required by the eye is placed in the posterior capsule bag that is left in place. The incisions are inflated and antibiotics are administered into the eye, and the surgery is concluded.
